The Host Club at Ouran High School was created when Tamaki transferred over from France. The reason why he decided on a host club instead of any other kind of club is still unknown, but Tamaki - as the President - takes the club very seriously. However, the Host Club is also very different than any of the other clubs at Ouran because they are not under subjection of a teacher.

There are rumors that Tamaki created the club in order to show off the Suoh family powers, but that seems to be very much a lie. First of all, Tamaki doesn't go around bragging to be the son of the chairman and secondly, Tamaki loves women and wouldn't just fool around to show off his status.

Everyone in the club is very close and basically considers each other family. Tamaki is the father, Kyoya is the mother, the twins and Haruhi are the children and Mori and Hunny are the neighbors. They are also best friends. However, the other club members don't take the host club half as seriously as Tamaki does and is only in it for his sake.

Why they would do this, I don't know for certain yet. We do know, however, that Tamaki had saved each person in the club from something and has given them new friends when they didn't have any before, the power to be themselves when they would have not otherwise and expanded their worlds. Even though they may not act like it, they all respect and admire Tamaki very much.

As the only woman posing as a male in the Host Club, Fujioka Haruhi is the uninspired heroine of the series. She is a scholarship student at Ouran and is very much a commoner. One day, while looking for a quiet place to study, she stumbled across the Host Club and broke an $80,000 dollar vase. In order to pay off the debt, Tamaki forced her to join the club as a servent, per say, but then she later became a full time member before Tamaki even noticed that she was a girl.

Haruhi is excessively talented in dealing with Tamaki and his actics because her father, who is a crossdresser, acts in the same manner as him. However, as much as she plays indifference toward Tamaki and his actions, I think that Haruhi is starting to look past Tamaki's pushy nature and see the kind of person he really is. It is my belief that they will end up being the main couple of the series.

Then there is Tamaki's best friend and the Vice-President (mother) of the Host Club, Ootori Kyoya (or Kyouya). Kyoya is the one character that was going to be cut out of the series but somehow remained. Which is really good for Ouran's sake - for Kyoya is the Shadow King" of the Host Club. Sure, he lets Tamaki make all decisions regarding the club, but he always leaves little ideas laying around for Tamaki to pick up on without noticing. Kyoya also controls the club's finances.

Kyoya and Tamaki first met when Tamaki was transferred into Ouran. Because they were in the same class, and Tamaki was the chairman's son, Kyoya was told to help Tamaki become familiar with the school. However, at that same time Kyoya's sister was concerned about Kyoya because he had no friends. Tamaki, not knowing this, decided right away that he wanted to become Kyoya's friend and hence the beginning.

The twins with the brotherly love act, Hitaiichin Kaoru and Hikaru. For almost their entire lives, their world was small and consisted of only each other. The children of a famous clothing designer, the twins only cared about themselves and laughed the world of everyone else. However, when Tamaki arrived at Ouran all that changed.

In high school, the twins, dispite never talking to any of their other classmates, were quite popular amoung the ladies. But, they were also very pompus and cold hearted. When they recieved love letters, they would gang up and destroy the letters in front of the person they got it from. When Tamaki found out about it, this outraged him, and he challenged the twins to a game. If he were able to tell them apart, then they would stop being mean to women. Thinking that Tamaki wouldn't be able to do it, they agreed but were shocked that after many attempts, Tamaki was able to do it after all.

Third years, and also cousins, Haninozuka (Hunny) Mitsukuni and Morinozuka (Mori) Takashi have the strangest relationship of all. In generations past, Takashi's family was in charge of protecting Mitsukini's familiy, but that was stopped when they became related through marriage. However, Takashi instinctively protects Mitsukuni anyway. Not that he needs protecting, for Mitukuni is a martial arts master and Takashi is a genius of kendo.

Their fateful meeting with Tamaki took place when Mitsukuni was told to put away his stuffed animal (Usa-chan or BunBun) and start behaving like the heir to a dojo. This saddened Mitsukuni very much, but he did it anyway. However, Tamaki found out and convinced Mitsukuni that it was alright to act like himself, which made Mitsukuni very happy and he and Tamaki became friends. Takashi, of course, became friends with Tamaki and joined the club because Mitsukuni did.
